After the crash, the phone still records. A woman can be heard asking if they were alright. They were both instantly killed. They were going 90 in a 30. Drugs, which were not taken, were scattered throughout the car. The driver, Kyle, didn’t have a driver’s license.
It has been 6 months since they were killed, and it was mutually decided by the families that the video should be published.
Here is the thinking behind the decision to make the video public:
“I really don’t know what inspired them to do what they did,” says Michael’s mother Kat Owen. “But the two are responsible for their decision that they made that night. But if this video stops one person from making the same mistake, then it has done some good. I hope that it gives some youth the impression that even just a little fun can have catastrophic consequences.”
She added the following:
“I want all the young people out there to be aware that they are not invincible, that they appreciate how valuable their life is for them and others. I want young drivers to consider how much pain they can cause others.”
